Across the Pond: 500 Years of British Choral Music

Op vrijdag 23 februari 2024 zal het Nijmeegs Studentenkoor Alphons Diepenbrock (NSKAD) het winterconcert ‘Across the Pond: 500 Years of British Choral Music’ geven. Dit jaar zullen er stukken gezongen worden van verschillende Britse componisten uit diverse periodes en stijlen. Het concert zal plaatsvinden in de Groenestraatkerk in Nijmegen (Groenestraat 229).

Het repertoire dat het NSKAD ten gehore zal brengen is zeer divers. Stukken uit stromingen als barok, romantiek en alles daartussenin zullen de revue passeren. Zo zal dit speciale repertoire een reis zijn van het melancholische ‘Funeral Sentences’ van Henry Purcell (1659-1695) naar het bombastische ‘Evening Hymn’ van Henry Balfour Gardiner (1877-1950). Verder zullen o.a. bijzonderen werken van John Blow, William Byrd, Herbert Howells en Gustav Holst voorbij komen.

Het Britse repertoire zal zowel a capella als onder begeleiding van orgel worden uitgevoerd. Het koor wordt voor deze stukken bijgestaan door organist Jan Pieter Lanooy. Tot slot zal vaste dirigent Leenke de Lege het koor wederom leiden.

On Friday, February 23, 2024, the Nijmegen Student Choir Alphons Diepenbrock (NSKAD) will present its winter concert ‘Across the Pond: 500 Years of British Choral Music.’ in the Groenestraatkerk in Nijmegen (Groenestraat 229).

This year, the NSKAD will perform pieces by various British composers from different periods and styles. The repertoire is highly diverse. Pieces from Baroque, Romantic, and everything in between will be featured. This special repertoire will be a journey from the melancholic ‘Funeral Sentences’ by Henry Purcell (1659-1695) to the bombastic ‘Evening Hymn’ by Henry Balfour Gardiner (1877-1950). Furthermore, NSKAD will sing some extraordinary pieces by composers such as John Blow, William Byrd, Herbert Howells & Gustav Holst.

The British repertoire will be performed both a cappella and accompanied by the organ. The choir will be assisted by organist Jan Pieter Lanooy for these pieces. Additionally, resident conductor Leenke de Lege will once again lead the choir.
